Prayers Answered

As I start my week I want to share just a quick note about something really important ...
My sweet friend and sister in the Lord, Zonia, came through her surgery in a wonderful way … a God's-hand-was-in-the-middle-of-it-way. Her open heart surgery to have a valve replaced was remarkably short, had no problems and she is recuperating as she should. All concerned are breathing sighs of relief but you know what? No one is really surprised. Prayers were lifted and answered and faith was reaffirmed.
Praise the Lord for He is good and kind and His mercies endure forever.

Thankful ...

Sometimes my heart is filled to overflowing with thankfulness and today is one of those days. However, I must admit, sometimes I forget how fortunate I am in love, in my life, in my health, in my prosperity, in my heritage - and in taking it all for granted I tend to live in a more self-centered way.

Sometimes life just happens around us and circumstances help us remember to stop and just be filled with a spirit of praise and thankfulness and respond to it in good ways.

My reminder this time comes two-fold – well, at least as a wife and Mom these two situations are what have impacted me this week.

  • The first is the death of a Mom who was a friend of my oldest daughter – a sudden, tragic death that jerked her abruptly from her 3 young, tender sons and a husband who loved her. In a heartbeat their lives were changed forever.
  • The other is another lady who is due to have a serious open-heart surgery in less time you can shake a stick at … and it's scary for all concerned. She is also the Mom to 3 sons, not so young as the first but, still young enough to desperately need their Mom and she is loved dearly by her husband.

Oh my, you just have to stop every so often and remember to pray for others. Do for others where and when you can. Show your thankfulness in manifest ways not just by mouthing the words. Show your gratitude for your life, loved ones and health by giving back, by making a difference as often as you can.

I'm not sure where this thankful heart will take me today and tomorrow but I love living in awareness … just praying now I will be used as the Father sees fit.

September's Flower

Incredibly enough, it is already September. I can't believe summer came and went so fast. This September marks the year before I'll have an empty nest. You have no idea how sad this makes me. I want to hold in tight to *now*. Although, I know in my heart of hearts this is how it is intended to be - we raise our kids to fly - it is one of life's most difficult tasks given to a Mother.
But enough of that - I love September. Why? Because it is the prelude to the most wonderful seasons of the year ... Autumn!! I am here, in the middle of green, but I have enough autumns under my belt to relish the season from afar! and I have loads of pictures that I probably journey through now and again. In the meantime, all you fortunate ones that get to be in the middle of this time of year ... I pray you love it and enjoy it to the fullest measure!

September's flower is the Aster. They're very similar to daisies but it's like the daisies just got all excited and came out in a bunch! I love Asters!

I Love Flowers - One of God's Best Gifts!

I got kind waylaid on mentioning flowers month by month - here are the last 3 and by me missing the posting of these sort of indicates me and my blogging for the last 3 months. Uh, let's just say I've been a little distracted. Don't rightly know if I'm 'on course' as of yet, but am willing to give it a try again.

June's flower is the Rose. Both of my sister's birthdays are in June and I love roses - well, hubby loves them more than me. We popped into a little greenhouse the other day and it was full of various brilliant shades of roses - kind of like this picture. And the fragrance was wonderful!

July's flower is the Water Lily. The only place I've ever seen water lilies is at places like botanical gardens or zoos. There's some gorgeous ones at Huntingdon Gardens in SC.

August's flower is the Gladiolus. This is my month and I am glad they are 'my' flower. Besides them being absolutely beautiful to look at ... well, their name is Happy!!
One of my very favorite childrens' books is A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson. Even though I love the poetry, Tasha Tudor is amazing as an illustrator!
